STEPHAN SCHMIDT KG was founded in 1947.
The company supplies special clays in different levels of preparation for all ceramic production purposes as well as expert system solutions for other industries.
The basis for this is the manifold range of clays from the opencast mines of Stephan Schmidt Group. The qualitatively stable raw material concepts are used in all sectors of the ceramic industries, e.g. in the technically sophisticated production of sanitaryware, in high-grade concepts for ceramic tiles and in a multitude of innovative applications for advanced clay minerals.
For all these purposes, the specialised clay mixtures are available in different levels of preparation:
- as homogenised clay from modern blending bed installations
- as ground clay from highly efficient drying and grinding plants
- as clay powder from a grit-free fine grinding plant
- as dry granulate from modern mixing devices
- as application-oriented raw material concepts consisting of clays mixed with various types of additives

Stephan Schmidt Meißen GmbH
The raw materials of the Meissen-Lusatia mining district are known all over the world. From the Wiesa-Thonberg clay deposit, Stephan Schmidt Meißen GmbH wins light-firing clays and kaolins for all kinds of applications in the ceramic industry. Large quantities of red-firing kaolinitic clays, used chiefly in the heavy clay industry, are available in the adjacent Cunnersdorf quarry. Stephan Schmidt Meißen GmbH also has a company-owned railway siding at this site for loading waggons, thus guaranteeing a reliable supply of our customers in Europe.

Custom-tailored raw material concepts constitute the basis for the standardised clay mixtures produced by MTG. The customers are supplied by road or rail via a company-owned railway siding. The high quality clays from the MTG quarries stand out for their high green strength and their excellent sinterability. Traditionally, these clays are used for the production of ceramic tiles and of vitrified clay pipes.
