Our Companies

STEPHAN SCHMIDT KG

STEPHAN SCHMIDT KG was founded in 1947.

The company supplies special clays in different levels of preparation for all ceramic production purposes as well as expert system solutions for other industries.

The basis for this is the manifold range of clays from the opencast mines of Stephan Schmidt Group. The qualitatively stable raw material concepts are used in all sectors of the ceramic industries, e.g. in the technically sophisticated production of sanitaryware, in high-grade concepts for ceramic tiles and in a multitude of innovative applications for mineral products.

For all these purposes, the specialised clay mixtures are available in different levels of preparation:

  • as homogenised clay from modern blending bed installations
  • as ground clay from highly efficient drying and grinding plants
  • as clay powder from a grit-free fine grinding plant
  • as dry granulate from modern mixing devices
  • as application-oriented raw material concepts consisting of clays mixed with various types of additives

Müllenbach & Thewald GmbH

Germany’s oldest clay mining company was founded in 1830 by Jakob Müllenbach and Wilhelm Thewald and acquired by Stephan Schmidt Group in 1976. Their finely ground clays are used as glazing, engobe and enamel clays. Fine-grained bonding clays for the production of grinding disks complete these fields of application. The quality of these specialised raw materials is controlled in the central laboratory at the company’s headquarters in Dornburg-Langendernbach.
